Forest School Shelter Working Party Update
We have now received the funding for our shelter from Veolia, so building can start hopefully very soon!
Mr Sam Jones, one of our parents, is leading the construction of this and hopes to begin work one weekend in early February (weather permitting). Thank you to those of you who have volunteered to help. We will keep you updated on the Weekly What’s On when a start date has been confirmed. Any additional helpers are very welcome. Forest School Transformation
During the summer months, we have been busy at St Leonard’s transforming and improving our Forest School area. We have expanded the designated area to increase the size of Forest School by a third. We have created an obstacle course in our meadow area, moved and increased the size of our fire square, relocated the mud kitchen and created an outdoor music area.
To enable us to expand the area we have, with help from one of our parents, Mr Jones, cut back some trees and bramble and cleared the Forest floor. The perimeter fence has been extended to incorporate the new area with a large access gate added in.
Four members of our teaching staff are currently undertaking Level 3 Forest School Leader training which will allow classes throughout the school to fully utilise this incredible learning environment and resource.
Future plans for Forest School are to reinstate a fenced pond area to allow pond dipping and more wildlife study.
Thank you to FOSLS who, along with ‘St Leonard’s, Weaver and Bluecoat Trust’, have helped fund this expansion.
The children are already thoroughly enjoying discovering and exploring the new area.
